We instinctively avoid things that look vague, difficult, and risky. I did too.
As I spent nearly two decades working inside organizations and grew comfortable in leadership roles, I naturally gravitated toward choices that were certain, safe, and had high odds of success. Organizational decision-making had to work that way.
But I started thinking my life should be different.
I have no competitors.
I'm a unique existence unlike anyone else.
So what actually grows me isn't chasing only what's certain and efficient.
It's bumping into things that are vague, inefficient, and unstable.
That thought became clear to me this morning.
So I'm going to dig back into things I've set aside for a while.
Even if it's a field others say is difficult, even if people avoid it,
if there's even a sliver of my vision and possibility in it, I won't turn away.
I'm going to push myself a little further away from the path that looks safe and right,
into a world that looks vague, uncertain, and risky.
Maybe there,
I'll find a version of myself I haven't discovered yet.
